CHARLEROI. IN MEMORY OF WEALTH, CELEBRATION AND RELIGION I 2009 I 10’00”
New work, commissioned by Contour 2009

Sapountzis’s new installation combines video, performance and sculpture, inspired by the historical monuments in Mechelen. The project engenders a confrontation of the present with the past, disrupts the symbolic apparatus of monuments, questions the political and cultural mechanisms that facilitates and enables their production and prompts us to re-think the relationship between the individual and historicised public space.

He is currently shortlisted for the Deste Prize, Athens. In 2008 he had a solo presentation in Statements at Art Basel.
